Eye examinations at Jack Brown Eyecare are free under the NHS for most people. Our eye examinations include corrective procedures and checks for signs of abnormalities that could potentially impair your vision or affect your general health such as glaucoma, cataract, diabetes etc. We use the latest computerised examination equipment and manufacture contact and spectacle lenses to your exact prescription.

Qualifications

Jack Brown Optometrists are approved by the DVLA to undertake the specialised examination required for the provision of a driving licence.

We run children's eye-care clinics at both practices in co- operation with the orthoptic department and Dr Fleck of the Princess Alexandria Eye Pavilion.

Further specialist testing is available such as visual field testing, corneal topography and fundus photography.

Specialist contracts are available for safety spectacles and VDU spectacles and we offer staff of certain companies a discount off their own spectacles, for example :

Eye examinations

All eye examinations in Scotland are now FREE on the NHS every two years for most people aged 16 to 60. An annual eye examination is advised for the following groups :

• Children under 16 years of age
• Adults over 60 years of age.
• Those with Diabetes or Glaucoma / Ocular Hypertension
• Those who are over 40 with an immediate relative with Glaucoma

Certain people other than those mentioned above will also be recommended a test within two years but your optician will advise in these cases.

Contact lens fitting and check ups are not covered on the NHS and these appointments may be chargeable.
