Plastic lenses that react to light conditions are available as single vision, bifocals and varifocals.

In addition lenses can be coated so as to react quickly to UV rays, darkening and lightening as necessary. lenses were traditionally made from glass and this is still available in extra thin forms however the most popular lense material today is plastic. Plastic is a much lighter material and with the introduction of high index materials they are now as thin as their glass alternatives.
